Improved PureWick® corrects the single design flaw behind most PureWick leaks — the collapsing gap that blocks suction. One small change to the tube keeps urine moving continuously, at home or in the hospital.
A gap that isn't supposed to close
Traditional PureWick relies on a small empty space at the bottom of the blue rubber sheath. Urine collects there and is suctioned up through the plastic tube. When that space collapses, suction stops — and so does dryness.
The system is elegant when it works: urine flows along the body-facing side of the wick, gathers in the reserved space between the tube and the sheath, and is drawn upward into the collection canister. That gap is the whole mechanism.
The trouble starts when the end of the plastic tube reaches or touches the end of the rubber sheath. With no space left to draw from, suction can't reach the urine, and it escapes around the body instead — the exact outcome PureWick was designed to prevent.

Transit and handling. Shocks during shipping can compress the empty space before the device is even opened.

Everyday pressure. Normal body weight against a bed or chair — or a caregiver positioning the device — can flatten the same space during use.
0.5 inches, and the gap can't close
Improved PureWick® extends the plastic tube slightly further into the sheath and rings the extension with small openings. Even under pressure, the gap can never fully seal — urine always has somewhere to go.
- The tube is lengthened by roughly half an inch, past the point where it could ever meet the end of the sheath.
- Small perforations around that extension keep a suction path open no matter how the device is compressed.
- The result is continuous, uninterrupted flow — the device works the way it was always meant to, every time.
